2025 Favorite Spots in Town
It has been two years since we updated this list and we are happy to share new favorites that are topping our list these days. Read on for our new favorites.
The patio restaurant at Cielo Rojo
Breakfast Spots
Sunset on Calle Mexico is a family affair operated by the children of the contractor who helped us renovate Casa Madre. The Garcia family prepares no fuss breakfast and lunch options everyday until 3pm. Our kids love the chilaquiles and waffles while adults opt for the balance of a green juice and steak and eggs.
Something a little chicer is Hotel Cielo Rojo on Calle Asia. A really nice experience in their beautiful hotel patio. We reccomend the omelette paired with a side of grilled shrimp.
Lunch Options
Emiliano’s on Calle Africa across from the hospital has become our favorite quick, easy and tasty option for traditional Mexican comida. The prices can’t be beat and the aesthetic is spot on for small town home cooking. Sopes, mole and enchiladas are recommended.
Marisol is a new spot on Calle Egipto for the more health conscious crowd. Healthy bowls, smoothies and treats are offered featuring local ingredients and all the feel good vibes. The Mint Moringa smoothie and Peanut Noodle Bowl are my personal go-tos on the menu.
Coffee Shops
Ajala on Calle Tercer Mundo before it meets Cuba is our favorite coffee shop. The staff is super sweet and the set up really friendly. Easy to go or sit at one of their small tables to enjoy watching people pass by.
Prieta on Calle Egipto is a very aesthetic cafe. Offering all the latest trendy coffee/matcha/espresso drinks. As with most places in town Prieta is especially dog friendly as you will find lots of pups hanging around enjoying the space.
Mandala is a favorite of Mike’s it is across the street from Circo and Entre Amigos. It is not fancy but a great local vibe. The bulldog out front is worth a trip alone.
A Wine Shop perhaps?
Rebelle off of Calle Cuba on the Mural pathway to the beach is one of the few spots in town to get Mexican wine and a sweet little wine shop experience. The owner Calixto is often there with his miniature schnauzer Enriqueta (also my mom’s name!) Calixto can help you find whatever might fit your palette.
Dinner Time
Yasmina’s is a vegetarian and vegan spot in a beautiful candle lit patio off of Tercer Mundo. The real name of the restaurant is a combination of her seven kid's names and I can never remember it. But behind Pizza al Punto and Mexicolate you walk thru a small breezeway to find her magical garden and comida casera.
Further into the patio you will find Cocina al Punto a new spin off of Pizza al Punto. Homemade pastas, lasagnas, salads and more. Crowd favorite for the whole family.
